In this
democratic country the women life has been known for barriers that she has to
face in day to day life. We always discuss about feminism, women empowerment,
equality but at the time of execution we segregate all these things in
realities from them.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND GENDER EQUALITY
1. First
let’s define the word “women empowerment”. What is this? And why there is gender equality?
As
we are aware of this is the process of empowering women.
Now,
empowerment can be defined in many ways, however when we are discussing about
women empowerment, empowerment means we are accepting or allowing the women for
taking her own decision whether it is inside or outside into it. It is for the
development of society and country.
But
everyday women have to fight for their rights.
Empowerment
means the women are able to access the opportunities available to them without
limitations and restrictions.
But 1 out of 3 women has been sexually harassed or catcalled in public by some random man. Every day women are put down and told how to act and also they face humiliation when speak louder for his rights because according to societal norm only men has the right to speak louder.
2.
Why
empowering women was necessary?
In ancient and medieval times human society was male dominated. Woman was considered inferior to man and had to remain subordinate to and dependent on man. Her proper place was home and especially kitchen and her main duty was to look after the household work. In the early societies there was demarcation between man’s work and woman’s work in society. It was due to a division of labor between man and woman.
Motives of women empowerment
But
with the beginning of industrialization, there began a women empowerment for
the emancipation of women. Women came out of their homes and began to take part
in decision making.
Now,
there is no field of human activity where woman has not made her mark.
Like
· Kalpana Chawla was an American astronaut, engineer, and the first woman of Indian
origin to go to space.
· Arunima Sinha is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest.
· Reita Faria Powel is an Indian model, doctor and beauty queen, who won Miss World 1966 to
become the first Asian woman to win the title.
· Mithali Raj was the first woman to score a double hundred in Test Cricket.
· Pratibha Patil became the first woman president of India. And many more….
They have disproved the myth of man’s superiority and showed that women are quite capable of rising to the highest position in the society. Today we find Indian women working shoulder to shoulder with men almost all walks of life.
If these
trends continue, a day is not far when the ‘weaker sex’ will dominate almost
all walks of life and occupies the top most position.
But
now the position of women began to become worsened in today’s society.
In
every country around the world women face multiple barriers and gender-based
discrimination in the workplace.
Government
has demonstrated various policies for women in economic and social growth but
still the women feel derelicts by the society.
The
best example held by the web series named “HUNDRED”
shown in Disney+Hotstar.
After
owning the reputable position by women itself has to tackle various issues like
sexual harassment, exploitation, gender equality etc.
If present trends continue, it will take almost 170 years to reach gender equality.
These are
the prominent facts about women empowerment and gender equality.
Let’s
understand in coherent about after empowering women according to societal
standards.
- When women are well educated, well paid and also have a good status in society. still, she has to succumb to the atrocities of society. They themselves become the stumble of their life just to maintain their status quo in the societies. because everyone has their personal problems but none of them wants to expose it as especially women who don’t want to retrieve from personal problems and feelings so that she doesn’t have to face rejection, criticisms and loneliness.they would just feel turbulent in themselves.
- So, they have to understand that women are empowered enough to take care of themselves and accept the status of their own not by their society with whatever they’re. if the women are divorced, living in relationship, left by her in-laws or left her own family then you face atrocities from rumors, hatred and gossip of society. the major problem is when women revile other women for reason like insecurities, status quo, jealousy, materialistic things etc..
How to get rid of?
When women support other women than 80% problem can be resolved in their day to day life. It’s time to embrace our rights and break the stereotype of society.
There is a saying “charity begins from home”.
Start making your own decisions and make riddance from this societal norms.
